South Tyrol Sustainability Label Level 3

Guests at the Holzner should be able to experience South Tyrol inside the hotel as well as beyond its windows. We want to look after the resources, products and people who shape this region. We also want more than our own impressions to tell us how well we are doing.

The South Tyrol Sustainability Label provides a shared framework for tourism businesses. It has three levels. Level 3 is the highest and requires an internationally recognised certification with an independent audit. The assessment goes beyond individual initiatives visible to guests: a business must demonstrate how it incorporates sustainability into its work and provide evidence of what it does. The South Tyrolean label also sets requirements for regional purchasing.

For the Holzner, the independent certification body Vireo assessed compliance with the international criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). These cover areas including energy and water use, working conditions, relationships with the local community and the protection of nature and cultural heritage. The assessment includes a review of documents and an audit at the hotel. On that basis, the Holzner was entitled to use the designation "GSTC Certified", a prerequisite for the South Tyrol Sustainability Label Level 3.

For us, the award marks a stage in work that continues every day. We measure resource use and emissions, review our measures and publish the results on our sustainability page. This lets guests see both what we do and what changes we are able to measure.
